Joanna Butler SEO Consultant
Joanna is an SEO consultant based in London and Nottingham. She specialises in technical SEO, working with blue chips and SMEs, creating and managing successful online marketing strategies through a balance of search engine optimisation (SEO), web technologies, online PR and social media.

With upwards of 15 years of experience in the digital space, I’m passionate about my industry and get involved through leading SEO workshops and speaking at conferences.
Along my career I’ve picked up certifications and awards such as gaining a CIM Professional Development in eMarketing Award after exploring online marketing further through joining the Chartered Institute of Marketing. I’ve also become a Google Analytics Qualified Individual and a Google AdWords Qualified Individual although I don’t practice so much PPC these days. I also contribute to other blogs such as Search Engine Journal.
My background consists of over 8 years as a professional website designer and developer programming in (X)HTML, CSS, XSLT, XML, Flash ActionScript, PHP and a little JavaScript, .NET and MySQL. I began teaching myself HTML at just 14 years old, going professional as a freelance web designer a few years later, and then moved to work in-house within a web development team in the competitive ecommerce sector of mobile phones. This is where I got my first taste of SEO and web analytics as a means to generating targeted traffic to build high performance ecommerce websites, and I’ve been hooked ever since.
When I’m not satisfying my addiction to the Internet, in my spare time I enjoy rural pursuits such as horse riding and hiking, photography and curing my itchy feet when I can.
What is Search Engine Chocolate?
Search Engine Chocolate is my online marketing blog where I explore ideas and topics such as search engine optimisation, website analytics, social media and online marketing strategies. I also like to cover related topics like online reputation management, pay-per-click advertising, accessibility, usability and technology.
The idea behind the name is creating content that search engines will love, rather like chocolate! Or SEO chocolate as I like to call it. It should go without saying that these thoughts are purely my own and not of an employer, clients or anyone else.
